ETS TOEFL Introduction

ETS TOEFL remains the world's most trusted academic English proficiency test in 2026, with major updates launched in January 2026 to modernize the testing experience. ETS TOEFL and Worcester

The University of Worcester continues to accept ETS TOEFL iBT scores for international student admissions in 2026. The university requires TOEFL iBT scores of 76 with minimum section scores of 17 in Listening, 18 in Reading, 20 in Speaking, and 17 in Writing for undergraduate programs, while graduate programs often require 86 with the same section minimums. Although TOEFL English Language Tests are no longer accepted as a SELT by UKVI for visa purposes since July 2014, the University of Worcester accepts TOEFL iBT for all other admission cases including degree programs not requiring pre-sessional courses.

TOEFL iBT Test Sections and Content

New 2026 Test Features and Improvements

Starting January 21, 2026, the TOEFL iBT features more relevant topics with modernized academic content and real-life campus conversations replacing historical topics. The test now includes 21st century content with excerpts from magazines and websites to show a broader range of English skills. Upgraded audio equipment with custom-designed Koss stereophones is available at all test centers. The registration process has been simplified for both in-center and at-home testing options. New free and paid prep materials became available starting July 2025 to help students prepare for the updated test format.

TOEFL Scoring and Score Validity

TOEFL iBT scores are available in your ETS account 3 days after your test date, with PDF score reports ready for download 1 day after receiving electronic scores. Your scores remain valid for 2 years from the test date. The test includes up to four free official score reports sent to institutions you select through your ETS account until 10 p.m. on test day. Additional score reports cost US$25 per institution or agency. There are no passing or failing scores set by ETS, as each institution determines its own score requirements. The test is scored by a centralized scoring team rather than at the test center.
